Performance Management

If the true goal of the performance appraisal is employee development and organisational improvement, consider moving to a performance management system and place the focus on what you really want to create in your business - performance management and development.

Performance management eliminates the performance appraisal or annual review and evaluation as the focus and concentrates instead on the entire spectrum of performance management and improvement strategies. These include employee performance improvement, performance development, training, cross-training, challenging assignments, 360 degree feedback and regular performance feedback.

The process enables each person to understand the true value they contribute to the organisation. They do so when they understand how their job and the desired outcomes from their contribution "fit" inside your department or work unit's overall goals.

Employees also set personal developmental goals that will increase their ability to contribute to the success of your organisation. The accomplishment of these goals also provides a foundation for their career success so they will be motivated and excited about achieving these goals.

Meeting the requirements for an effective performance management system is assisted by implementation of an approach that integrates organisational, business and individual planning and performance. We achieve this with your organisation by:

  • defining the purpose of the job, job duties, and responsibilities
  • defining performance goals with measurable outcomes and linking these with organisational goals
  • defining the priority of each job responsibility and goal
  • defining performance standards for key components of the job against best practice
  • hold interim discussions and provide feedback about employee performance
  • implementing a 360 degree performance feedback system that incorporates feedback from the employee's peers, customers, managers and people who may report to the position
  • developing and administering a coaching and improvement plan if the employee is not meeting expectations
  • developing and implementing a reward and recognition program for employees who are meeting expectations

Implementing a performance management system enables a manager to help an employee succeed. Today's forward looking companies understand when a business follows a structured performance management model, the employee can be helped to succeed which supports a business in moving forward.
